The Assembley as it was in May 2000.

The Assembly, the Edinburgh-based agency which was touted as Scotland's 'first full-service online agency' at its launch in May 2000 has been taken over by Nottingham-based print management company, Bridge Direct, after going into liquidation on 14 January.

The new media agency was established two years ago by three former department S executives and in that time it has worked for clients such as Strathclyde Business Park, University of St Andrews and the Royal bank of Scotland.

Eight of The Assembly's graphic design and new media staff will now be taken on by Bridge Direct, however, The Assembly's directors, including chairman Jim Hine and managing director Campbell Shirlaw, will not be involved with the company any longer.

Bridge Direct has had an operation based in Leith for around a year. The Scottish operation of Bridge Direct, which also has operations in London and the Midlands, is headed up by Lindsay Wallace, sales and marketing director for the company.

He says that the group is undergoing a rebranding project at the moment and The assembly will assume that name once it is finalised. He also says that the group is seeking new premises in Edinburgh and the eight former Assembly staff will relocate to those premises when they are found.

Wallace adds: "As a client of The Assembly's creative design service we were well aware of its capabilities, particularly in the fields of web site design and hosting, provision of digital marketing collateral and e-commerce strategic support. I am pleased that we have been able to secure the services of the team members who will form the core of our new creative services operation. As a key part of this we will be looking to recruit an experienced business leader who understands the traditional print market, but who can also optimise the opportunities which the new service will add to our offering."

Bridge Direct currently works for clients such as ABN AMRO Bank, Xerox and Stocktrade.
