Art Against Knives (AAK) has formed a partnership with independent media planning and buying agency the7stars, building on the7stars’ commitment to young talent.

AAK is a young, creative charity working to reduce knife crime through youth-led initiatives which aim to provide an alternative to gang culture. The charity was born out of the tragic and unprovoked stabbing of art student Oliver Hemsley.

To launch the partnership, the7stars is opening its offices to AAK to display and sell a variety of artwork donated to the charity from established artists and emerging talent, including Hannah Parr, Penny, Abigail Box, Finn O’Brien, and John Costi. Prices range from £30 to £4,000.

Members of the7stars team will also volunteer their time and skills to support the creative youth projects and initiative’s delivered by AAK across London. The agency is also looking to offer apprenticeships through a placement scheme in association with AAK, which will invest in hands-on media training for 16-24 year-olds who do not attend university.

Katy Dawe, co-founder of Art Against Knives, commented: “We’ve worked with the7stars to raise awareness of what we do and we’re over the moon to have their support. They are a group of creatively-minded individuals who believe in supporting young talent. This is perfect example of how the creative industry can support young people by providing them with the opportunity to see how their creative skills translate into the real working world.”

Founder of the7stars, Jenny Biggam, added: “The great work of Art Against Knives was first brought to my attention by a member of the7stars team who is a friend of Oliver’s.

“Given this and our recognition of the important work they do I was thrilled to launch this partnership. It’s a big part of our culture that we’re committed to talent development, and we want to work face-to-face with the young people supported by AAK and inspire and help them to follow their dreams and reach their potential. The hands-on training we are offering and apprenticeship scheme will help to do just that.”

The open office event will take place between 7pm and 9:30pm at the7stars offices on Tuesday 4 September.
