Amazon is opening another New York office for sales, marketing, finance and IT
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Amazon is expanding in New York City with the addition of a 359,000-square-foot office in Manhattan, creating 2,000 high-paying jobs in finance, sales, marketing and information technology.
Amazon is opening another New York office.
To encourage Amazon's expansion in New York, the company was offered up to $20m in performance-based tax credits. Amazon will invest $55m to outfit the office space at 5 Manhattan West using energy-efficient standards.
The expansion will create 2000 jobs that will earn an average of $100,000 annually. Amazon will also retain over 1,800 jobs in New York State.
Amazon did not respond to a request for comment.
However, in a statement, Paul Kotas, Amazon's senior vice president of worldwide advertising, said, "We're excited to expand our presence in New York - we have always found great talent here. Last January we announced our plans to create 100,000 full-time, full-benefit jobs in the US by mid-2018 - and we are on track to reach that goal."
Earlier this month, Amazon announced plans to build a second US headquarters.
On September 6, Cuomo announced a $100m, 855,000-square-foot Amazon fulfillment center in Staten Island, which will support 2,250 full-time jobs. Amazon also has a Fashion Photography and Videography Studio in Brooklyn and a 350,000-square-foot administrative office in Manhattan.
