Essence promotes Kyoko Matsushita to global chief client officer

Matsushita currently serves as Essence’s APAC chief executive officer. She will continue to oversee the region as she transitions to her new global role.

Matsushita will oversee the growth of Essence’s Global Client Services Practice, which includes collaborating on new business initiatives and ensuring the quality of the agency’s work.

She will join the agency’s global leadership team, which includes global chief executive Christian Juhl, Global chief operating officer Steve Williams, global chief talent officer Jennifer Remling, global chief strategy officer Damian Blackden, and global chief of product operations Rich Mooney.

“Kyoko’s experience working across media, creative, and marketing will continue to be extremely critical as we work with our clients to solve increasingly complex marketing challenges,” Juhl said in a statement. “Kyoko has demonstrated outstanding business and client leadership in her time at Essence. She is the perfect individual to take on this role and take our client services teams to the next stage.”

Matsushita has more than 20 years’ experience overseeing business development, marketing, media, and operations across EMEA and APAC. Since joining Essence in 2014 as chief executive of the APAC region, Matsushita has driven significant growth across APAC, which included establishing offices in Bengaluru, Delhi, Jakarta, Melbourne, Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.

Matsushita received the “CEO of the Year” Certificate of Excellence at Campaign Asia-Pacific’s Women Leading Change Awards in 2018 for her success with growing Essence’s business in the region.

“Essence’s client centricity is what has helped us develop such a compelling offering in the marketplace,” Matsushita said in a release about the appointment. “Because our teams are deeply involved in the evolution of our product offering, we're able to adapt our services and processes to meet changes in our clients’ needs more quickly. I’m excited to work with our senior client services team as we groom the next generation of marketing leaders at Essence.”

Prior to Essence, Matsushita ran marketing teams at leading companies such as Electronic Arts and Sony.
