US Ad of the Day: Ryan Reynolds & a sweater voiced by Seth Rogen raise funds for SickKids
Reynolds and his aesthetically-challenged sweater return for another star turn in support of SickKids.
Upon sitting down to skeptically watch Spirited, my family and I openly debated if it was time to start disliking Ryan Reynolds. After all, the actor has been seemingly everywhere in 2022 including, now, in a musical.
Upon the conclusion of the movie, we agreed, he remains impossible not to like. The fact grows even more true when you consider that now for the fourth year, Reynolds is campaigning for donations for the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Canada’s research-intensive facility for treating children.

Each year, he dons an “aesthetically challenged” sweater to raise funds for SickKids. This year, in a new wrinkle, the sweater has a voice.
“Yes, I can talk. Use your imagination,” says the garment. “As a sweater and fellow Canadian that comes out but once a year, I’ve grown tired of Ryan’s self-deprecating, deadpan jokes.”
It continues: “Revel in the wonder of a talking sweater as you make a donation to SickKids.” And then begs: “Please cut to the titles before he makes an obscure pop culture reference.”

Having to get the last word in, Reynolds says: “I know it’s you, Seth. How can I tell? Have you ever heard yourself?”
Seth Rogen joins Andre De Grasse, Bianca Andreescu, Mayor John Tory, Hayley Wickenheiser, Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal and the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews (who makes a cameo this year) as famous faces (and, in Rogen’s case, voices) to appear in the effort.

Last year, the campaign raised $850,000 during the holiday season. This year, Samsung Canada will match up to $100,000 donated before midnight on Christmas Eve. Here is the link to donate or buy your own version of the ugly holiday sweater.
