Mills: Looking for a different style of life.

Steve Mills, managing director of McCann-Erickson Scotland, has quit the agency. Mills, who was one of the founders of Williams Atkinson Mills (WAM), which was merged with McCann's Scottish office in 1998, has decided to set up in business alone.

Despite leaving the agency, Mills will remain a consultant to McCanns and will also provide other clients with a similar marketing consultancy service.

He was deputy MD of The Bridge in Glasgow prior to founding WAM in 1992 alongside Brian Williams, who recently took up the position of creative director of The Glasgow Agency, and Will Atkinson.

McCann-Erickson's creative chief, Will Atkinson, is now the only original partner to remain at the advertising agency. He will now assume the managing director's duties along with Helen Crosthwaite who is client services manager at the agency.

Mills said: "I decided it was time for a change from a big corporate organisation.

"I was looking for a different style of life. I wanted to do something more entrepreneurial than work for someone else. I have enjoyed the last 25 years in agencies very much. At McCann's we have done some great work and had some really terrific clients."

Atkinson added: "We've told all the clients and they're sad to see Steve go, but relaxed about it. Personally, I'm very sad to see him leave because we've worked together since the late eighties and we are great friends."
