The research, which was released on Tuesday, reveals the most creative cities in the US to start a business and what makes each city so unique. According to a statement shared with The Drum, the rankings are determined by each respective city’s number of art museums, artists and film festivals, as well as its general employment growth rate in the creative sector.

According to the study, Los Angeles ranked first due to its “30,000 jobs currently available in the creative sector [and] strong economic growth, with almost 6% employment growth year on year,“ while Boston, Washingon DC, San Francisco and New York made up the remaining top four locations.

“Identifying the creative epicenters of the US can be a game changer for entrepreneurs planning to launch a startup, or CEOs deciding where to establish another office,“ an unnamed Craft Docs spokesperson said in a statement.

“With numerous metropolitan areas boasting reliable infrastructure and a skilled talent pool, there are several cities across the country that make fantastic locations for growing a prosperous business, while also serving as excellent places to nurture your creativity.“

According to NASAA data, the arts industry contributes $876bn to the US GDP each year. The full research and methodology can be found on Craft Doc’s blog.
