Audible promotes comedy podcasts with tragically funny ad

As our protagonist stands by the roadside beside her broken-down car, a series of further unfortunate events begin to unfold, such as her keys landing elbow-deep in a muddy puddle and a passing lorry ripping her car door off. All the time, she’s laughing.

As the spot nears its end, she brushes her hair behind her ear and we see she is wearing ear pods and listening to a podcast. And as the car is struck by lightning and bursts into flames, we see a final shot of her cheery face and a last laugh as a voiceover from Adam explains, “Whatever life throws at you, laugh through it with comedy on Audible.”

Albert Hogan, senior director of brand and content marketing at Audible, said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to join our creators in tickling the funny bone of our audience with this great new campaign. Given the quality lineup of comedic greats and exciting new voices we have on Audible, now felt like the natural moment to showcase and celebrate what we have on offer for listeners.”

The multi-channel campaign will launch across video-on-demand, online video, cinema, out-of-home and social, with special builds going live from the end of July. Media planning and buying is by Wavemaker UK.

With the ’Comedy’ campaign, we’re promoting Audible as the essential destination for audio comedy, but also encouraging people to look life’s less friendly face in the eye and smile.”
